In 1998, Bo Smolka hiked the entire 2,160-mile Appalachian Trail. He left Springer Mountain, Georgia on May 8 and finished atop Maine’s Mount Katahdin on Oct. 10. Along the way, he filed articles for the Sunbury (Pa.) Daily Item.
