About Bo Smolka

Bo Smolka is an award-winning writer whose work has been published in The Washington Post, Baltimore Sun, Chicago Tribune, Boston Globe and National Geographic World among other places.

He is in his 13th season covering the Baltimore Ravens, first for Comcast SportsNet from 2011-16 and now for Press Box. He is also a member of the Professional Football Writers of America.

Before that, he worked for five years as a sports copy editor at the Baltimore Sun and spent 10 years in the college sports information business, first as an assistant at Navy and then as sports information director at Bucknell, his alma mater.

He received a 2023 gold medal in the Solas Awards for travel writing, and he won several national writing awards from the College Sports Information Directors of America, including CoSIDA’s national Story of the Year.

He graduated from Bucknell with a degree in math and English and earned a master’s degree in writing from Johns Hopkins. He serves as an adjunct instructor in creative writing at Stevenson University.

He lives in Baltimore, Maryland, with his wife and two children.
